Overview

Welcome to the Department of Physics at BITS Pilani. We have faculty with interests ranging from experimental to theoretical aspects of condensed matter physics, optics, spectroscopy, image processing, field theory and quantum computation. The department is supported by UGC-DRS-SAP and DST-FIST.
 
Apart from teaching physics courses and guiding students in their projects and theses, faculties actively engage in regular seminars and discussion forums and popular talks. Regular visits of experts and scholars from Academia and industry for technical and popular talks add to the vibrant academic culture of sharing and collaboration. The students of the Physics Club organize  Physics Week as part of APOGEE (a technical festival of the institute) and those of the Astronomy club conduct periodic observation sessions.

DST-FIST

On 20th January, 2018 Physics department received approval of DST-FIST (Fund of Improvement of S & T Infrastructure, 2018-23, DST, Govt of India) worth of Rs 230 Lacs. Department will develop sophisticated instrumentation facility of characterization and synthesis viz. X-Ray Diffractometer, Sputtering Unit along with computational facility using this funding.
