About ResearchOur research interest focuses on design and synthesis of natural and synthetic bioactive nitrogen heterocycles as potent and selective anticancer agents. Recent research efforts aiming towards the use of organoiodines enabled us to discover several efficient protocols leading to easy access of drug-like bioactive heterocycles and natural products. Taking cue from indole-based natural products and synthetic drugs, identified various indolylazoles endowed with anticancer activities ranging from micro to nanomolar IC50 values. Efforts to develop potential photosensitizers resulted in the identification porphyrin macrocycle and boron dipyrromethenes with interesting absorption and emission properties. More recently efforts towards conjugate chemistry provided water soluble cationic porphyrins with remarkable (IC50 in nanomolar range) photocytotoxicity.
