| Project Title |
Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of Wastewater Treatment Technologies |
| Project Description |
The proposed research aims to perform a comparative life cycle assessment of conventional municipal wastewater treatment technologies, focusing on their environmental and energy implications. Although the treatment technologies effectively reduce the organic loading and nutrient concentration, their operation also entails energy and chemical usage, and sludge production, thereby resulting in greenhouse gas emissions. The study will evaluate the complete life cycle of each system—from construction and daily operation to sludge handling—using key indicators such as energy consumption, global warming potential, eutrophication, and acidification. The findings are expected to highlight treatment options with reduced environmental footprints and sustainable alternatives for managing municipal wastewater. |
